Kirkland Advises Moderna in its Strategic Research and Development Collaboration Agreement and Patent Licensing with Immatics
Kirkland advised Moderna, a biotechnology company well-known for their mRNA research, in its research and development collaboration agreement and patent licensing with Immatics, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, for the development of innovative mRNA-enabled oncology therapeutics. The collaboration combines Immatics’ T cell receptor (TCR) platform with Moderna’s cutting-edge mRNA technology. The companies plan to leverage Immatics’ XPRESIDENT® target discovery platform and Moderna’s mRNA technology for the development of novel cancer vaccines and include evaluation of Immatics’ investigational IMA203 PRAME TCR-T in combination with Moderna’s investigational PRAME mRNA cancer vaccine.

Under the terms of the agreement, Immatics will receive an upfront payment of $120 million plus research funding, and the company is eligible to receive development, regulatory and commercial milestone payments that could exceed $1.7 billion. This remarkable collaboration could lead to pioneering innovative and transformative therapies in the fight to combat cancer.
The Kirkland team was led by Shellie Weisfield Freedman and David MacDonald and also included antitrust partner Michael Thorpe and associate Sarah Lonvick.
